BLOG 6 - Themed - Free Post 2

Hello again class! how are you doing? This week we’ve got our sixth entry; a  free/themed topic! Here, I am inviting you to write about any topic (hopefully related to your careers :P) Thus, you can present anything connected with your aspirations, intentions, visions or your dreams regarding your studies or professional lives. Again, anything related to your academic experiences will be fine. However, there are multiple aspects that you can talk about outside the university…be creative and write, write and write!

Requirements for the entry:
For the present task, you need to write 140 to 145 words. Pay attention to misspellings, grammar errors and vocabulary. Do not forget to post three (3) comments on your classmate’s posts and one (1) on mine as well (25 words as a minimum!) Try to use the structures we have learned in previous lessons and all the English you know. DO NOT USE GOOGLE TRANSLATOR TO DO YOUR ENTRY. I truly encourage you to g for some WOW Words! (the WWP!) Give it a crack and good luck on your task! :)

Throughout my life as a language teacher, I have found that music plays a fundamental role in language acquisition. By instance, for many years I have noticed that most of my students tend to play some background tunes on their PC’s while working on a given project. Also, I have been seen many others wearing their earphones while walking across the university campus or even playing some instruments while lying on the grass during their leisure times. This is how I started my quest to discover how connected music is to education.

Feliz Estudiante Masculino Escuchando Música En El Campus Fotos ...

Last week while teaching a lesson on adjectives, one learner was asked to read the exercise, he got the answer correct but when it comes to reading, he did it in a robotic style; an unnatural way of doing it. Then, occurred to me that he could do it by following a rap rhythm (since he is a rap fan) after a couple of tries, he go the rhythm perfect and could read the sentence in one shot!

On another occasion, I came across some Mexican exchange programme students who were fascinated by the way we Chileans speak, basically they meant the rhythm and musical sound of our syllables. Which in turn, helped me to start a small survey of peoples' perceptions around language, music, national background and education.

Lastly, I went around Campus JGM asking students what were they looking for when listening/playing some music. Most of them chose 'for leisure' option. Many 'to get away from it all' and some 'for a daily ritual, nothing especial'. Interesting, isn't it?
